Whenua Kore, 2019
‘Whenua Kore’, 2019 by Robert Jahnke features neon light and one-way mirrored glass, creating a visual experience that symbolizes the infinite nature of time and space. As viewers move around the piece, its circular neon rings warp and stretch, evoking a wormhole into the abyss. For Māori, time is seen as a cyclic phenomenon, continuously shaping our understanding of existence and consciousness. Through "Whenua Kore," Jahnke invites an open-ended exploration of Māori concepts of time, where 'beginning' and 'end' are interconnected within an ever-evolving time-scape.
